Aatu - International, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Nordic Champion - is now retired from showrings. He had wonderful show career, including Finnish Basenji Club Specialty Best In Show 1999, Basenji Of The Year 1999, Helsinki Kennel District's Show Dog Of The Year 1999. Year 2000 he was #2 Basenji Male in Finland, even though he spent 6 months in States. He has BIS-placement from International show and several Group placements. He was confirmed FCI International Champion at 2,5 yrs old. He was invited to Champion of Champions in Finland & Norway year 2000. He won Best Gait & #2 Best Male in Swedish Basenji Club Specialty 2001, and in 2000 he was #3 Best Male in both Finnish & Norwegian Basenji Specialties - he also made the cut in Open Red And White Males at BCOA Specialty! And naturally, he finished his Championships in first possible show! ;-)

Aatu is a dog with BIG attitude - he just loves being in a Big Ring when he knows that everybody's watching HIM :-) Aatu has perfect compact masculine body - correct size (43 cm), very short back & level topline, correct angulations both in front & rear, beautiful gait, very short & deep orange coat, perfect tailset & curl, beautiful head with short muzzle + great temperament .... and even most judges agree with all this ;-) Aatu is a real 'show-man', even though he sometimes acts like a clown in the ring ... Tiina & Susan could tell you lot of stories about his little tricks!

After Aatu won BIS in Finnish Basenji Specialty June'99, our judge Mrs. Irene Terry (ZIZUNGA) from England wrote an article about it in Dog World Aug'99. Aatu's famous mom Pippa was BOS.
"The winners delighted me. Whipper-Snapper had it all, masculine but with elegance, a joy to watch going round the ring, kept his good head carriage, accentuating a neck of good lenght and that which appeals to me so much, a really good topline held all the time on the move - and I did make them move! His reach and drive were excellent. Borasus Juel of the Sun was intriguing; as a consistent winner I had seen photographs of her but did not recognise her. Photographs are deceptive, I had thought her to be taller than she actually was. She is absolutely balanced and of correct height, but just looked a bigger bitch in her photographs. Again, she is a wonderful type, pure Basenji in balance and elegance, movement was excellent from all angles and it is easy to see how she has won so much. In the final challenge her son just outshone her, male pride and attitude were way up front and his movement round the ring enthralled me." Thank you Mrs. Terry for your kind words!
